Thinking of starting a children's service at your church?
Are you thinking of starting a children's service within PCNSW? Maybe a Preschool, Early Childhood Centre, Long Day Care Centre, Out Of School Hours service or Vacation Care service?
If you are then you should know that Presbyterian Social Services has oversight of these programmes. We also have a policy that shapes the kind of children's services provided by the church in the future.
We acknowledge that all children are precious before God and need to learn to know and love Him. We understand that children have an inborn drive to development, propelling them towards learning and competence and that early experiences can enhance or diminish this potential. We believe that providing children with those experiences in a caring Christian environment helps them to grow, not only as healthy children, but also in their knowledge and love of God.
We believe that families should be supported in the care and nurturing of their children. To that end, services should be established in such a way that allows them to establish relationships with families. This includes consideration of the size and type of service provided.
Services established within PCNSW will provide care, support, and opportunities for learning and development within the local community in a way that clearly expresses the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Services will have a focus on compassion, affordability, safety, and a commitment to excellence in service.
Children and their families who access our services will be treated with respect and dignity, and will be provided with support within a Christian environment.
Children who access our services will be provided with Christian teaching as is appropriate within the kind of service provided. Their families will be provided with information about Christianity and ways to become involved in a local Christian church.
Carers and early childhood professionals are pivotal in young children's environments, providing protection, nurturing, and stimulation that shapes a child's early development. Therefore the carers and professionals employed by our services will have a clear and active Christian faith and a willingness to share this with the children and their families.
If you are interested in starting a service get in touch with us. We can provide advice, assistance and practical help.
Or perhaps you have been approached by an external provider who wants to use your hall to start a children's service? Get in touch and we can help you work out what is the best way forward.
